Frequently Asked QuestionsInstallation and Configuration
1. What is the minimum configuration requirement for the SU to talk to the AP?
2. How do I do a site survey? The Access5830 system (both APs and SUs) features a handy site survey tool which scans across all channels for a specified period of time and indicates the signal strength of any interference that might be present. A site survey can be conducted with either an Access Point or a Subscriber Unit. The radio must be in OFF mode. Using the browser interface, click on the Site Survey link, enter the desired time frame for the survey, and click on the Start Survey button. Alternatively, this survey can be conducted using the command line interface using the command Survey XX P, whereby XX indicates the time for survey (in seconds) and P indicates the desired polarization (H or V). 3. How do you use the RSSI LEDs on the Access5830 SU? There is an amber colored alignment LED on the bottom of the SU beneath the access cover. A faster blinking, or steady amber light indicates a strong signal. A more precise method for antenna alignment is to use a laptop and the RSSI command. This command will give you a steady, continuous readout of the signal strength being received from the AP while you align the antenna. 4. How do I align the AD5800-27-D and AD5830-24-D 10 mile dish antenna? When properly aligned to an Access Point at the same elevation, the 10 mile dish antenna will appear to be tilted down approximately 22 degrees. 5. What is considered to be a good signal strength for the Access5830 SU with a 24dBi gain dish antenna? Assuming target RSSI is not limiting the SU power.
6. What is the maximum Ethernet cable length between the radio and the network component (PC, switch, etc.)? 100 meters (or 328 feet), with the J box anywhere within the 100 meters. 7. Do I need to seal my connections on the 10-mile dish? The antenna cable kit provided with the 10 mile dish includes heat shrink for the purpose of weatherproofing the RF connectors at the radio and at the dish. Additional weatherproof sealant may not be required, but would not be a bad idea. 8. Do I need anything extra with the radios? Do they come with all of the mounting brackets and hardware? Access Points and Subscriber Units come complete with everything needed including power adapter, power over Ethernet adapter, and mounting hardware. |
