1. How do I verify how many and which SU are associating with the AP?

Using the browser, go to the Link Control page. This page will show you how many SU's are currently associated with the AP. At the command line interface, type the command su live.

2. How do I verify the quality of a link between AP and SU using browser interface?

From the Link Control page of the browser

3. Why can't I run certain applications via the wireless link?

Certain application may require the use of Broadcast Packets. These applications will require that you turn off the "Block broadcast packet" switch. Turn this off using the browser interface or by doing one of the following using the command line interface:

  1. For the AP - From the AP, use the commandsw 0 off. (use command updateflash systemsetting to write the change to the AP's persistent storage.)
  2. For the SU - From the SU, use the commandsu sw <suid> 0 off. (this command writes the change to the SU's persistent storage automatically.), use the SU Ranging/RSSI test as well as the SU Link RF Loopback test. The SU RSSI test will tell you the RSSI (relative signal strength indication) from AP received at SU as well as the RSSI of the SU received at the AP. The SU Link RF Loopback test (see below) will test for packet loss over a 1 minute, or longer period.

4. How do I check link quality using CLI/Telnet?

Use command su testrflink < all|suid > from AP. This command sends 20 large packets from the AP to the SU and back again to the SU. Any received packet quantities at the SU or back at the AP of less than 20 indicate loss of packets.

5. What is the problem if I don't get AP TX 20, AP RX 20, SU RX 20 for response from su testrflink < suid > command?

This means either the signal strength is insufficient, or there is interference causing packets to be dropped over the air. Do a site survey and verify 'clean' channel and polarization. Using a clean channel/antenna polarization will usually fix the problem.

6. Why am I not seeing 10 Mbps throughput in both directions using FTP software?

There are several factors (outside of radio performance) that could be causing this. Before testing the throughput over the RF link, verify you have more than 10 Mbps throughput each way with laptops or PC's directly connected with a crossover cable. Once this benchmark is established, ensure that the software settings for buffer sizes are set to maximum.

It is also important to ensure that there is no interference in the area by performing a site survey and the su testrflink command. If there are no packets being dropped due to interference, remove any switches, hubs, and other network devices. A proper speed test should be conducted via computer to computer (with no other devices) in order to rule out any other factors which could be slowing the performance.

7. Using the command line interface, how do I check the signal strength from the SU to the AP at the AP?

Use command su ping < suid >. Then look for the field max rssi.

8. Using the command line interface, How do I check the signal strength of the AP to the SU at the AP?

Use command su status < suid >. Then look for the field rssi.

9. Using the command line interface, how do I check the AP's transmit power at the AP?

Use command sysinfo. Then look for the field RF Tx power.

10. How do I check the SU's transmit power at the AP?

Use command su status < suid >. Then look for the field tx power.

11. How do I maintain the consistency of the scan table and the channel table across the entire sector?

  1. Use command freq writechannel to assign frequency to channel number.
  2. Use command updateflash systemsetting to make the change permanent at the AP. (Note: Step a and b are not needed if you use channel numbers and corresponding frequencies given by manufacturer.)
  3. Use command su bcastscant to broadcast new scan table and channel table to the SU(s).
